Rajasthan: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Government of Rajasthan have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a state of the art 9 mmtpa refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Barmer district of Rajasthan. All project related studies have been carried out by renowned consultants.
Outlining the project details, S. Roy Choudhury, Chairman & Managing Director, HPCL said, “The 9 mmtpa refinery cum petrochemicals will be state-of-the-art complex and will bring benefit to the state of Rajasthan and its people.”
The project, to be set up in partnership of HPCL, Rajasthan State Refinery Ltd and others, will be designed to produce motor fuels with latest environmental specifications and wide range of petrochemicals which will have a substantial impact on the economy of Rajasthan.
Appreciating the efforts of HPCL, Ashok Ghelot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan opined that the project will produce various petrochemical product to impart robustness to the bottom line of the complex. “The people of Rajasthan will have access to the petroleum products produced within the state which will be available at competitive prices in a future competitive scenario,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Smt Lakshmi Panabaka assured Government of Rajasthan and HPCL the necessary support from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The Rs37,230 crore refinery-cum-petrochemical project is likely to go on stream in four years after seeking necessary approvals from the Government of India.
